A male Belted Kingfisher strikes a pose at a small reservoir in Fishers, Indiana. With its top-heavy physique, energetic flight, and piercing rattle, the Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon) seems to have an air of self-importance as it patrols up and down rivers and shorelines. They always seem to be on the move, soon as I get close enough for a shot they take off fifty yards down the lake.
